Antonio Cassese
Antonio Cassese (Italy, 1937–2011) was a lawyer and lecturer in international law at the University of Florence. He represented Italy in various international human rights organizations and was the first president of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture and of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (1993–2000). Cassese was a member of the International Commission of Inquiry into the crimes in Darfur, established in 2004, and was appointed President of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in 2009. He is the author of numerous articles on international law and war crimes.
